Intimate Backyard Fall Wedding Ceremony in Georgetown, Colorado
Timeless, vibrant wedding photography from a backyard ceremony and around historic downtown
Stephanie wanted relaxed, vibrant and timeless photos for her intimate backyard fall wedding ceremony in historic Georgetown, Colorado.
They had rented a VRBO on the beautiful lake in late September in Georgetown, Colorado and would be inviting only their closest friends and family. No frills, just a beautiful small ceremony with their closest people. The leaves had started to change and that crisp afternoon Colorado autumn light matched with the bluebird skies created the perfect backdrop for the day.
When I showed up to the house on the wedding day, I was warmly greeted at the front door by her family. It was like a warm hug, and I immedietly felt a sense of comfort. Even better, they had a football game on the TV. It was fall after all, and we all know that coincides with football season. The best time of year! I wandered around the house and met everyone and then hung out with Johnathan, the groom and his groomsmen taking some relaxed portraits in and around the house. “How are you feeling?” I asked Johnathan. He smiled. “A bit nervous.” I responded with a smile and a nod, “That’s perfect.” He was so excited to marry the love of his life.
After taking portraits of the boys, Stephanie made her way out to the backyard with her bridesmaids. Their colors, so beautiful and her smile could have warmed a thousand suns. Simply vibrant. “How are you feeling Stephanie?” I again asked. Same answer. “I’m excited and a little nervous.” Again, I smiled and nodded reassuring her “that’s beautiful.” Neither of them were anxious as much as had those beautiful fluttering butterflies in their stomach. A feeling you can’t fake. I tried to honor those beautiful moments in my portraits of them.
After taking portraits of everyone, the ceremony began. What I loved about it is how laid-back and loving it was. Their son was a bit tired from running around all day and ran up to mom and dad right as they were about to say their vows. Stephanie calmly lifted him into her arms, smiled and continued to read her beautiful words to Johnathan. They took it all in stride. No getting upset that it would ruin the moment or the photo…just pure love. During the ceremony they also shared shots of tequila and an act of unity with their children pouring colored sand into a beautiful clear box. And then, just like that-they were married.
We took relaxed, natural portraits together with everyone basking in the beautiful weather and the love of the day. All was right in the world. That’s the beautiful things about these intimate weddings with closest friends and family-you’re surrounded by those who love you most and the positivity and support is infectious and palpable.
Stephanie and Johnathan and I then set out for some photos in and around Georgetown. I drove them in my truck since their car was blocked in the driveway. Again, I loved how easy-going they were and just happy to be together. We drove up Guanella Pass Road a ways and then went to the historic train station and Main Street downtown at sunset capturing really beautiful timeless and natural portraits of just the two of them enjoying each other and the moment. Taking deep breaths and focusing just on each other.
As night fell, we made one last stop. Cabin Creek brewery. As we were about to walk in both of them had forgot their money. When they approached the bar, the staff quickly poured them free beers on the house and were so incredibly kind. It was beautiful to see strangers celebrate Stephanie and Johnathan. That’s what I love about these Colorado mountain towns. People are so laid-back, kind and generous. Life feels better up in these small towns. I grabbed a couple last portraits of them enjoying their beers before driving us back to the house where all of their friends and family anxiously awaited. When we walked in everyone broke out clapping and hollering showering the newly married couple with love. It was a perfect capstone to a truly special day. I am so honored to have been included and share such intimate spaces and moments with these two beautiful souls and their closest loved one. I invite you to scroll down and checkout some of the special images we captured!
