Lair O’ The Bear Park Idledale, Colorado Family Photography

Natural outdoor portraits filled with personality, connection, and the beauty of Colorado summer

Stephanie reached out looking to take photos of her family of 7 before their first-born left for college. She mentioned they have a few extra photography challenges - two disabled teens who are wheelchair users, two service dogs and a 5-year-old who doesn't stop moving!

I loved it! Sounded like a beautiful and fun family. We met at Lair O The Bear Park due to it’s gentle trails and easy access for wheelchairs. Everyone was in good spirits, and I could quickly tell how tight this big, beautiful family was. Everyone brought such a unique personality and energy to the photo session. We headed over to the nearby creek and setup around the picnic benches. I decided it would be best to get the whole family together for some inital more forward facing portraits while everyone was fresh and engaged.

Since it was such a large family with varying ages (and service dogs), I spent time with each person and various family groupings giving them all proper time to shine and get comfortable in front of the camera. Everyone’s personality really came out in the two hours. When someone was a bit of tired of being in front of the camera, they had plenty of time to go sit by the stream or enjoy time at the picnic area simply taking in the beautiful sunlight and scenes on this stunning Colorado summer afternoon.

Then it was the dogs time to shine. We let them take a dip in the creek, and they quickly got the zoomies chasing each other running through the woods full speed getting their energy out.

Stephanie and I chatted about the adoption process and how she went to Niger for a year to live so she could secure the adoption of her daughter. It was a long process but totally worth it! Then they returned to Ghana to adopt their other son which took several more months. I was in awe of their dedication to their family, their patience and genuine love.

If you are worried that your big family might be too much or you’re concerned because perhaps someone has mobility issues or a disability-have no fear! I have plenty of great location ideas that will work, and we will have a blast capturing the unique spirirt of your family. Reach out to book your Colorado family photography session.
