When Marijoy reached out, she asked if we could blend a relaxed family session with natural graduation portraits of her son Lincoln, who would soon be graduating high school.
She also asked if their beloved dog, Rambo, could join — and of course, I said yes. No brainer. Dogs are perhaps my favorite creatures — they bring spontaneity and heart to any shoot and always make family photo sessions even more fun and naturally engaging.
We met at City Park in Denver, just an hour before sunset, bathed in the soft glow of golden winter light. From the very beginning, the energy was effortless. This beautiful little family radiated authenticity, joy, and connection. They embraced gentle direction, but really came alive when they were just being themselves — laughing, playing, and sharing quiet, meaningful moments together as the sun sank low over the mountains.
City Park is one of the best central locations in Denver for both family photos and senior graduation portraits. It offers a rich mix of open fields, tree-lined paths, lake views, and mountain backdrops — all within walking distance. There’s enough variety to keep things visually interesting without needing to travel far, and it has that kind of laid-back, natural energy that makes people feel at ease. Whether you’re wrangling toddlers, walking your dog, or celebrating the transition into adulthood, it just works.
It’s easy to see why Marijoy’s name ends in “joy.” Her spirit is magnetic, and her boys are kind, funny, and clearly bound for great things. And let’s be honest — their hair alone could make anyone a little envious.
