Colorado Vacation Family Photos at Mount Falcon West
Western inspired family photos with mountain views and warm Colorado sunset light.
Several months back, Alaina reached out while planning her family’s trip to Colorado from Syracuse, New York.
She dreamed of family photos that felt a little bit western, with wide open skies, mountain views, and that magic golden evening light. She and her husband Frank were also celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary alongside their two sweet daughters.
Right away, I suggested Mount Falcon West, one of my favorite mountain locations near Denver. It’s easy access and has a little bit of everything “Colorado.” Forested gentle trails, amazing rock outcroppings, expansive western views, and plenty of room for kids to wander, explore, and simply be themselves.
We met on a warm spring evening in May, with the sun slowly beginning to dip behind the foothills. Before we even officially started, I could hear Frank from the parking lot telling the girls how beautiful the spot was. That set a really lovely tone. I always appreciate when folks are grateful to be somewhere taking the land around them in.
Their outfits could not have fit the setting any better. The western inspired style, wide brim hats, flowing dress, and little cowgirl boots brought personality and flair.
Like many little ones, the girls were a bit shy at first, which is completely normal. Meeting a stranger with a camera is like “uhhh ok.” I never force it. I like encourage play, being silly and exploration. Usually, once kids realize they are free to run around and simply have fun, everything opens up.
Sure enough, the girls were quickly climbing rocks and running down the trails. Bingo.
The golden hour delivered. Warm light danced across the hillsides casting long shadows giving theat beautiful glow. I’m a lover of chasing light, so when it all lines up it gets me amped. We wandered between different spots throughout Mount Falcon, capturing a mix of classic family portraits along with candid moments as the girls explored the landscape.
It was a beautiful evening together, and I’m incredibly grateful I had the opportunity to photograph this special celebration for their family and preserve a few memories from their adventure ‘out west.’ Please scroll down to enjoy some images from our session.
Here’s what Alaina had to say afterward:
“Ryan gave us awesome location options for our session and had the best spots scoped out. He was very patient with our young children and is so talented. He captured beautiful photos that we will cherish. Highly recommend!”
