Winter Family Photo Session | South Valley Park Littleton, Colorado.

Family Time Together, Captured Naturally With Joy & Love

Multi-generation family laughing together during a candid family photo session at South Valley Park in Littleton, Colorado

Brandon originally reached out for family photos.

His entire family was together for the holidays, which doesn’t happen often, and he wanted to document that time while everyone was in the same place. Nothing elaborate. Just honest photos of his family being themselves.

What he didn’t share right away was that after the family portion of the session, he was hoping to propose to his girlfriend, Maria. The proposal wasn’t meant to be a production. He wanted it to happen naturally, with family nearby. The only person who knew ahead of time was his sister, Brooklyn.

We met at South Valley Park in Littleton, and from the start, the session felt relaxed. His family was warm, energetic, and easy to be around. There was a lot of laughter, movement, and conversation. Very quickly, it felt less like a photo session and more like time spent with old friends. I didn’t have to prompt smiles or force moments — they were already there. We talked about everything from buying land in Oklahoma to college football and plenty in between.

At one point, while gathering everyone for a big family photo, Maria (still Brandon’s girlfriend at the time) said, “Why don’t you just get one of the family together?”

I remember smiling and saying, “Oh, you’re clearly part of the family.”
Keeping a straight face wasn’t easy.

She didn’t know what was coming, and neither did most of the family. But they already treated her like one of their own — pulling her in, hugging her tight, making sure she was included in everything.

After we finished a full set of family photos, I asked Brandon and Maria if they wanted to step aside for a few photos together.

After a few frames, Brandon took a knee and asked Maria to marry him.

Her reaction was immediate and completely unfiltered — surprise, laughter, tears, all at once. She said yes without hesitation.

Behind me, his family realized what was happening. Parents and grandparents watching it unfold in real time. No phones raised. No one stepping in. Just quiet recognition of the moment. His mom’s reaction said everything.

Everyone came together afterward — hugs, laughter, emotion spilling out naturally. I documented it as it happened, without interrupting or directing anything.

It started as a family session and ended with one more beautiful addition to their crew.

If you’d like to see the engagement photos, you can view the moment Brandon popped the question and the rest of the gallery here.

It was a really meaningful afternoon celebrating family, time together, and a new chapter beginning. If you’re looking to get the whole gang together and document this season of life, I’d love to help — feel free to reach out to book your family session.

Here’s what Brandon shared afterward:

“We were able to work with Ryan to capture family pictures and a surprise engagement. Ryan did a fantastic job cultivating great energy during and after the moment. He had solid communication before and after the event, and the pictures look absolutely amazing. I would recommend Ryan to anyone looking for pictures without thinking twice.”
